ADVOCACY

The advocacies and proposed solutions of the medical students for their four-year community engagement at Barangay Adante Piñan, Zamboanga Del Norte revolves around the conceptual framework below.

The first figure depicts a wide gap between the existing key resources in the community: (a) Manpower (b) Local resources (c) Local networks. These gaps birthed forth to the top five priority health problems in the community. For this reason, the medical students acted as catalysts to fill in the gap.

As mere catalysts, the group engaged the community in every step-process, allowing them to realize their full potential both as an individual and as a community through appropriate education and skill enhancement. The existing local resources in the barangay were utilized by maximizing its benefits for improved consumption.

Local networks through built partnerships among the local government unit, nongovernment organizations, and other concerned agencies was established in order to pave the way in strengthening participation and collaboration.

Finally, the arrow going up captures the group’s vision which is going above the adversaries and beyond the differences to lessen the gap between health and community by creating ripples of change that would impact big wave of change.
